The traditional concepts of respect and sharing that form the foundation of the First Nations and Métis peoples’ way of life are built around the seven natural laws, or Seven Sacred Teachings. Each teaching recognizes an important virtue to uphold for a full and healthy life and each teaching is symbolized by an animal to show the connection between the animal world and the human world. These specific teachings, according to Lisa Meeches, executive producer of the Sharing Circle, Canada’s longest running Aboriginal documentary series, were first shared with her by her grandfather and spiritual leader Don Daniels who is from Long Plains First Nations in Southern Manitoba.

Please consider the Seven Sacred Teachings when it comes to the use of commercial tobacco. Remember that you have the power to change your health and to better the health of your family, the community and the Nation.
